English to Amharic translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general) / Common Law or social practice
English term or phrase: Privacy
I looked in some Amharic Dictionaries for the word "Privacy" and they translated it as "gilegnanet" which I am not satisfied with this translation as "gilegnanet" may imply "selfishness" or "possesiveness". Can any one help and enlighten about the Amharic translation or equivalen coinage for this word "Privacy"?

privacy
የግል ህይወት/yegil hiywot

Explanation:
as Shita said, there is no equivalent translation; there are only derivatives of the word privacy u can use, depending on the context it is used in. however, when i looked for the word in the ethiopian constitution the amharic equivalent was given as yegil hiywet. it makes sense if u want the nearest translation of the word 'privacy' as it stands alone. u might say that a 'private life' suits yegil hiywet better, but at this point privacy and private life have almost the same meaning in these contexts. but as i said, 'privacy' requires different translations depending on the context it is used.
