English term or phrase: A cult person
I know what that means, but found no accurate translation in Arabic

معبود/أثير
Explanation:
Hello Fayez
About the word "cult" it comes followed by a noun like actor, person, singer or writer..It means a figure who is extremely admired and idolized
ex. a cult hero
The cult of youth
The word cult has two translations
معبود / أثير
It is the context which shows the right option

For example, if the context is about a group of fanatics, it is better to use "معبود"
شكسبير هو معبود كُتاب الدراما المسرحية
و لا تخشى استعمال كلمة "معبود" فهي لا تعني "رب" كما نعتقد و إنما تعني الإعجاب الشديد بشخص ، أى تستخدم بشكل استعاري فقط لا أكثر

But if the context is a bout an actor or a singer who has some normal rather that fanatic admirers, you can use "أثير"
عبد الحليم حافظ أثير الشباب
و كلمة أثير صحيحة لغويا و هي تعني شخصا تفضله و تؤثره على غيره /أي الإيثار أو التفضيل
But also note
Both معبود و أثير can be used interchangeably
I hope my translation is helpful..
Regards
