Too bad these expressions are dying out in many regions. I am partial to these expressions because of their richness and authenticity. For someone who just wants a quick, all-purpose thank-you, these phrases may be too cumbersome. SHUKRAN would then be the standby phrase.

thank you Fuad. i have a hard time realizing all those letters says 2 simple words in the english language. i will use this but was looking for the arabic alphabet using the writing similar to our Gregg shorthand. thank you again.

shookran is usually enough. it is used to thank "one person" or "two" or more..
if you want to be more specific, you could say:
shookran lakoma (two persons)
شكرا لكما
shookran lakom (three persons and over)
شكرا لكم
or: ashkorokoma (two persons) أشكركما
ashkorokom (three and over) أشكركم
to say thank you very much:
shookran jazeelan شكرا جزيلا
