A process in a tree's nutritional cycle:

"The tree absorbs oxygen through its bark and through its root cells, at the same time giving off carbon dioxide. This process is called dissimilation (or respiration). Most dissimilation takes place at night. In the process, the tree does not give off oxygen, but absorbs it."

Dissimilation is an antonym to Assimilation which is scientifically know as "photosynthesis" التخليق أو التركيب الضوئي
Unfortunately I was unable to find a direct scientific antonym.
The closest would be "photorespiration" التنفس الضوئي.

"A biological process in plants, thought to be useless and even wasteful, has significant benefits and should not be engineered out -- particularly in the face of looming climate change, says a team of UC Davis researchers.
The researchers have found that the process, photorespiration, is necessary for healthy plant growth and if impaired could inhibit plant growth, particularly as atmospheric carbon dioxide rises as it is globally. Their findings are published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences"

كما اقترحت الأخت العزيزة/دينا تبدو" تنفس النبات" أكثر تحديدا للفصل بين نفس المصطلح في مجال الصوتيات ومجال النبات

وقد اكتشف عام 1779 أن النبات يتنفس من خلال أخذ الأكسجين وطرد ثاني أكسيد الكربون، مثله في ذلك مثل الإنسان والحيوان، ويصحب تنفس النبات ارتفاع في درجة الحرارة، وهو يتم في الليل والنهار.

أما التمثيل الضوئي فيتم فيه تحول ثاني أكسيد الكربون والماء إلى الكربوهيدرات التي تحتاجها النباتات نفسها أو كائنات حية أخرى
