Thank you. I see that the exact translation of the "gooseberry" into Arabic is not easy task. الريباس seems to be uknown for Arab people and it is not Arabic word, الكشمش is quite often another kind of fruit. The best translation seems to be: عنب الثعلب but even this one has got also other meanings. So I liked to know if there is a word which would be an exact translation of "gooseberry".

disagree  A Nabil Bouitieh: With no disrespect, but pls read on: لم أتيقن من مدلول الكشمش في المفردات. وفي االمعاجم هو عنب لا نوى له. وقد تدرجوا حديثاً على إستعمال هذه الكلمة إسماً لهذا النبات، ولا أرى بأساً في ذلك. أما تسميته بالريباس فهو خطأ، لأن إيم جنيه العلمي من أصل سويدي .
