English to Arabic translations [PRO]
Science - Botany / Alliums
English term or phrase: Allium
Babylon English-Arabic dictionary translates Alliums to الثوم. But everywhere else I've checked in English, it is stated that garlic is one type of Alliums only. Any idea what the correct Arabic word for Alliums is and where I can find a list of Arabic names for various Allium types (Purple Sensation, Round and Purple, etc)?

Much obliged for any help on this. Thanks ever so much.

Explanation:
بصل البر Allium >>> ( الطيطان ) وهو نبات عشبي حولي ينمو من بصلة بيضية الشكل مغطاة بغلاف حرشفي بني اللون وينمو تحت الرمل بعمق حوالي 16سم، اوراق البصل خضراء ناصلة عددها مابين 3- 6وهي اوراق شريطية تشبه إلى حد ما البصل العادي ويوجد ساق واحد على شكل ورقة ولكنه اطول وأصلب من الاوراق وهو الذي يحمل نورة من الازهار ذات لون ارجواني غامق أو زهري، ينمو هذا النوع من البصل البري في الأماكن الرملية المفككة والرملية الصلبة. الجزء المستخدم من النبات البصلة الموجودة على عمق حوالي 15سم يعرف النبات علمياً باسم Allium Spharocephalum المحتويات الكيميائية: يحتوي على زيت طيار مع مواد كبريتية مثل الاليسين وفلافونيدات وسيترولات وحموض فينوليه ومواد هلامية.

agree  Dina El Kassas: ولكن يفضل عدم كتابة الجنس بالحروف العربية، يفضل أن يقال جنس ثم كلمة اليوم بالحروف اللاتينية، الثوم هو من فصيلة الزنبقيات واسمه العلمي اليوم ساتيفوم، ينبغي ادراج الاسم العلمي بالحروف اللاتنية
