English term or phrase: Sustainable (economy, growth, etc.)
Dear colleagues, I'm looking for ONE Arabic word, if possible. I've been using Mustadaam, but not quite happy with it. Any (other) suggestions?

Arabic translation:Sustainable - some variants
Explanation:
Greetings / tahaiya tayyiba wa b3ad...

تحية طيبة وبعد...حياكم الله جميعا

Hiyaakum Allah jamii3aan...

I don't know about any one word that suffices to describe that state or ability of being or doing some trait.

Some variants I have seen are:

dhaat al-hiyaat

ذات الحياة

qaabil lildawwam

قابل للدوام

qaabil al-istamraar al-dhaatii

قابل للاستمرار الذاتي

(I have not seen an Arabic rendition of that expession in print in some time, but these come to mind.)

You might contact the World Bank in Washington, DC online, and query their translation section. The translators there have developed some extensive glossaries and vocabularies that should include that term, in sha' Allah.

Hope this helps.

Khair, in sha' Allah.

Thank you for your effort, Stephen (although my computer does NOT read this kind of Arabic, as you may remember). Similar thanks go to Mona, Fuad and Raghad.

Explanation:
I agree with Stephen H. Franke. Finding ONE Arabic word equivalent to this word is a bit tricky.
My suggestions would be:
"اقتصاد "محتمل الدوام
"Muhtamal Ad-Dawam"
"اقتصاد "قابل للصمود/للبقاء
"Qabil lis-Sumood/lil-baqaa."
Other suggestions that also come to mind:
مُسانَد - مُدعَّم - مُعَزّز - مُؤيَد
Musaanad - Muda'am - Mu'azzaz-Mu.ayyad.

Hope this Helps
Mona
