appraise or apprise?

Appraise, meaning "to evaluate," is used with reference to people or (more usually) the things they do or achieve: She appraised their work at the end of each week.Apprise, meaning "to inform," is a more formal word, and is used with reference to people: He apprised them of the decisions.

neutral  Nesrin: Your Encarta reference explains the difference btw the two terms (evaluate/inform). It does not say that "appraise" can be used to mean "apprise".
17 mins
-> Thanks Nesrin. Encarta reference mentioned "apprise" with "appraise" as they are commonly misused.

Explanation:
Hi brother Ali,
I know apprise means " to inform" and appraise means "to evaluate the worth of." However, I was recently told that the spelling of apprised changes based on whether the subject is singular or plural.
1- The President has been apprised of the situation.
- Have customers been fully apprised of the advantages?.
