The first time I saw the translation for "Businessman" was at a airport, from that moment until now, I still doubt whether the common translation for businessman is correct or not. رجل الأعمال
I think تاجر is much better than رجل الأعمال , straight to the point and makes sense.

because just مركز الاعمال wouldnt appeal to an Arab.

"Business" means أعمال تجارية and "commerce" is تجارة (واحدة من الأعمال التجارية . When one approaches a term/phrase, one considers how a specific translation may fall on an Arab's ear. That's why "Business Center" was translated مركز الأعمال التجارية

Yes you have a point about "commercial" and "businessman". However, neither of them can stand alone decontextualized. Both terms are two sides of the same coin; business is commerce and a merchant is a businessman and a businessman's work is commerce. But

ربما فلان لا يمارس البيع أو الشراء مباشرة ...مثل الشخص يعمل في المشروع الكبير..و القسم الذي يشتغل فيه لا يتدخل في الشراء أو البيع مباشرة.... مع ذلك..يمكن أن نسمى هذا الرجل تاجرا...
someone might not be directly involved in buying or selling, which is part of the business, say in a dept. of a big company, dealing with advertising/marketing .... however, we still call him a businessman.

how do you say " commercial" in Arabic? think this way, and you will have a fresh idea about what I am talking about. please be advised that I am aware of the fact that " Rajlu al-a'amal" is a common translation for businessman, the point I brought forward is that I doubt the ground of this translation even though it was widely regconized as an offical one.
