English to Arabic translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Cinema, Film, TV, Drama | | English term or phrase: sand and steel | "We sit here amidst sand and steel."
This is a sentence said by a wealthy Middle Eastern woman who belongs to a wealthy family as she contemplates her life and everything that they managed to achieve over the years. Now, "sand and steel", it seems, is not an expression. So, any idea what it could refer to?

4 hrs confidence:
1 day9 mins confidence: وفي آخر المطاف ماذا جنيت غير رملا وحديداً
Explanation: When one contemplates his life certainly he will assess his richness emotionally and physically.
If she is living a rich life of love with her beloved ones she would not say that she was left with her material acquisitions only (Sand and steel, referring to land and building properties). And certainly she would say I am happy.
If she were a writer she would say "words and paper"
وفي آخر المطاف ماذا جنيت غير رملا وحديداً

Explanation: dear asker your quetion was a littel bit confusing because you didn't mention the speaker state when she said that!!! was she optimistic ? was she pessimistic? and the most approximate traslation for what you said without knowing the speaker state is what i mentiond befor!!!
