-> i totally agree with you, ali; consistency is the most important feature in scientific texts. imagine having some people translating carbon as 'حجارة غازية' and others 'العنصر الأسود' and still others 'غاز الفحم'. it would be a disaster for science!

اختصاره RAM. هي المكان في الحاسوب حيث يتواجد نظام التشغيل، والبرامج التطبيقية،والبيانات المستخدمة حاليا كي يكونوا متصلين بسرعة بمعالج الحاسوب. الرام أسرع بكثير للقراءة منه والكتابة إليه من الأنواع الأخرى للتخزين في الحاسوب كالقرص الصلب،القرص المرن والقرص المدمج. عموما البيانات المتواجدة في الرام تبقى هناك طالما كان الحاسوب مفتوحا،فعندما يغلق الحاسوب تفقد البيانات من الرام. وعندما نقوم بتشغيل الحاسوب مرة أخرى يُحمل نظام التشغيل وباقي الملفات الأخرى مرة أخرى من القرص الصلب إلى الرام.

بإمكاننا تشبيه الرام بذاكرة الشخص قصيرة الأمد وتشبيه القرص الصلب بالذاكرة الطويلة المدى. تركز الذاكرة قصيرة الأمد على العمل الموجود في المتناول لكن بإمكانها الاحتفاظ بالعديد من الحقائق المنظورة في وقت واحد، وإذا امتلأت الذاكرة القصيرة الأمد بإمكاننا إنعاشها من الحقائق المخزنة في الذاكرة طويلة المدى. والحاسوب يتبع هذا الأسلوب أيضا فإذا امتلأ الرام يحتاج المعالج للذهاب للقرص الصلب بشكل مسمر لتغطية البيانات القديمة في الرام بأخرى جديدة. ممايبطئ عمليات الحاسوب.على خلاف القرص الصلب الذي من الممكن حدوث امتلاء بالبيانات فيه فلا يقبل أكثر،أما الرام لا يستنفذ الذاكرة. يستمر بتنفيذ العمليات ولكن ببطئ أكثر مما يريده المستخدم.
