هل يمكن ترجمة المصطلح كالتالي: "البيض البلدي" وهو ذلك البيض الناتج عن الطيور التي تربي في مراعي طبيعة معتمدة في غذائها على على العشب والحبوب وتتمتع بدفء أشعة الشمس.

صراحة لا يمكنني ترجمة المصطلح على هذا النحو "بيض الدجاج المربي في مراعي طبيعية" خصوصا وأن المصطلح وارد في وصفة مختصرة لصناعة صنف معين من أصناف كعكة الفواكه.


فالشائع لدينا أن البيض صنفين إما بيض مزارع وهو البيض الناتج عن تلك الطيور التي تربي فى عنابر طبقاً لآلية معينة بحيث تعتمد الطيور في غذائها على مواد غذائية مصنعة ومركبة تسمى بالعليقة او الاعلاف المركبة أو البيض البلدي الذي سبق الحديث عنه



The main difference between free range and factory farmed eggs is that the birds are permitted to roam freely within the farmyard and only kept in sheds or henhouses at night. However, not all countries have legal standards defining what free range means. For example, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has no standards and allows egg producers to freely label any egg as a free range egg. Many producers will label their eggs as cage-free in addition to or instead of free range. In other countries, such as Australia, strict regulations govern what can qualify to be called free range and those eggs which do not qualify must state that they are cage or barn laid on their container.

neutral  Mohamed Ghazal: بلدي is a species, but free range is the way the bird is kept. You can get بيض بلدي from a بلدي chicken you have in a pen, that doesn't make it free range.

Explanation:
Your predicament is a common one: should I translate using a reader-friendly term (even if not accurate), or should I use a more accurate rendition, even if somewhat less reader-friendly?

The answer to such a question is always situational. There are occasions, for instance, when I translate "email" to إيميل (even if I have to bite my lips), simply because I know the person who will read the document, and I know that this is the only term he/she knows for "email."

Likewise with "free-range eggs." For a short ad with very few words, one is inclined to use the most common term in order to appeal to the broadest range of consumers. In this case, بيض بلدي is quite acceptable.

But if the material is more extensive than that, then I would try to introduce a term that I believe is more accurate and not awkward at all. This is how language develops: somebody believes a certain term is more appropriate, insists on using it repeatedly despite limited or no currency, and hopes that in time it will gain greater currency as people encounter the term more and more. This is what I have been doing with a large number of legal terms, for instance.

So if the material is not strictly promotional, or if it is promotional but more extensive than a brief ad, I would suggest بيض دجاج طليق
