In general, Arabic dictionaries and Arabic usuage do not seem to clearly distinguish between "recession" and "depression." The following PowerPiont presentation from Kuwait seems to attempt to do so. See Slide 28:

agree  Hatem Abacid: Yes, also تقلص إقتصادي . The Swedish term for recession is "low conjuncture", clearly an occurence, while "depression" has a longer duration and broad consequences for the whole society.
