English term or phrase: terminal setting velocity

The degree of penetration of particles into the lower respiratory tract is a function of particle size and breathing rate. Particles with a size of 5–10 µm are screened out by the hairs in the nose; particles in the 1–2 µm range penetrate to the alveoli and settle there; particles smaller than 0.5µm do not have a large enough terminal setting velocity to be removed efficiently.
