International organizations have recently assumed financial responsibility for the development and distribution of medicines to combat HIV-AIDS and malaria. Other foundations have also contributed to medicine in the third world, notably Clinton Foundation. Governments are also beginning to play this role. And the most recent development is the formation of International Finance Facility for Immunization, established by the Group of Eight leading industrial countries.
