Pyroclastic flow describes
the flow of sedimentary rock that is composed of fragments of
volcanic rock produced by the explosion of a volcanic eruption

وهي كلمة يونانية الأصل متكونة من مقطعين الأول
( Pyros )

في حالات حدوث البراكين، يشتد
في بعض الأحيان ضغط الغاز في ألماكما المرتفعة وقد يتحرر بانفجار شديد ومفاجئ ، فتنطلق قطع

و تسمى هذه العملية بـ

. أن هذه الشظايا من مادة البايروكلاستك يمكن ان تختلف إلى حد بعيد في الحجم من غبار دقيق جدا ، ورماد بركاني ، ورمل خشن ، وقطع تتراوح من حجم اكبر من كرة الكولف إلى كتل شديدة الضخامة وكمية من الحمم البركانية الأخرى
وعندما يسقط البايروكلاستك في مكان قريب جدا تتكون منه فوهة على شكل مخروط يعرف باسم مخروط النفاية،( Cinder Cone )
