Counterleak ( now we are getting sophisticated) is an anonymous source’s passing of a charge of someone else’s leaking to a reporter, who sees a conspiracy in the exposure of the original, possibly authorized, leak.

The truth is that \"counterleak\" is used in a broad variety of ways, all of which hover around the idea of a leak made in response to another leak, usually with an opposite political motivation.
