. A good example is the Syrian, Usama Ibn Munkiz, who was himself a knight and used this fact as a basis of understanding in his meetings with the Franks. He had a lot of respect for the Franks because they were brave, and because they also represented this ideal of manhood.

Explanation:
The tribes of what is now France and northern part of Spain. Were considered by the Greeks and Romans as barbarians, mainly because they resisted the Roman occupation - isn't it amazing how we tend to denigrate people who resist us :-)
