يغطي هذا النوع من التأمين المسؤولية القانونية / المدنية للمنتج أو الموزع أو الشركات المكلفة بفحص المنتجات وذلك ضد الإصابات الجسمانية أو الأضرار المادية للطرف الثالث والناتجة عن استخدام الغير (الطرف الثالث) للمنتج أو البضاعة موضوع التأمين ويشترط أن يكون استهلاك أو استعمال المنتج قد حدث بعيدا عن مقر المؤمن له وان يكون المؤمن له قد تخلى عن حيازة المنتج للغير أي تم التنازل عن ملكيه المنتج عن طريق بيعه للطرف الثالث .

وقد تمتد التغطية أحيانا لتشمل تامين ضمان المنتج (ضد عدم إيـفـاء المنتج بالغرض الذي أنتج أو صنع من أجله).

وقد تمتد التغطية أيضا لتشمل تكلفة استدعاء وتجميع المنتج من السوق بعد بيعه لوجود واكتشاف عيب بالمنتج بعد توزيعه.
