The California Legislature passed a similar law in 1990 to require a drug-free workplace for all employers doing business with the state. The purpose of a drug-free workplace policy should be to help the employee reject the use of drugs and alcohol, especially on the job. Even if you do not do business with the federal or state government you should at a minimum have a drug-free policy that prevents possession or use of illegal drugs on the company property
