كل هذا لاينفي أن تعبيرات الحرب غير المتكافئة أو الحرب غير التقليدية .. إلخ قد تفي بالغرض وربما تكون أكثر تعبيراً ولكن الترجمة المذكورة أعلاه هي الترجمة الشائعة للتعبير محل السؤال

First, I think it should be written "warfare" rather than "warefare.
Now to the meaning in English:
عادة ما قام الفكر العسكري الغربي على افتراض أن كل نزاع مسلح يفترض شن حرب عسكرية تقليدية التوجه أي ضد عدو ذي قوة متناظرة وأسلحة مشابهة وعلى أرض معركة معروفة
غير أن الخبراء العسكريين كثيراً ما أشاروا لسنوات إلى أن قوات المقاومة في بقاع أخرى كالشيشان دأبت على استخدام نوع آخر من القتال المسلح يغاير تماماً نظرية القتال المسلح التي قام عليها الفكر العسكري الغربي، إذ يلجأ فيها أفراد المقاومة إلى فكر جديد تماماً يفرضون فيه القتال بأسلوبهم غير عابئين بما درج عليه العدو خلال المعركة أو القتال. ومن ثم جاءت تسمية هذا النوع من القتال بـ

وهو مصطلح صاغه خبراء الإرهاب المضاد أوائل التسعينيات ويعني لجؤ قوة غير مسلحة أو ضعيفة التسلح إلى مهاجمة نقاط الضعف في عدو أقوى نسبياً أو أفضل تسلحاً
بأسلوب غير تقليدي أو مألوف رخيص
وينطبق هذا النوع من القتال على كافة ما تقوم به الجماعات المسلحة من عمليات عسكرية
ومن أمثلة القتال غير المتكافيء أحداث الحادي عشر من سبتمبر

وهناك من الكتاب العسكريين من يرى أن المصطلح ينسحب على كل موقف عسكري يتمكن فيه العدو الأضعف من إحراز نقطة تقدم أو مزية قتالية معينة أو فوز عسكري بوسائل غير مألوفة ورخيصة كزرع الألغام ، نظراً لأنها سلاح رخيص وغير مكلف وتصعب مواجهته

لكن رأيي الشخصي القتال قتال والحرب حرب والمنتصر أياً كانت وسيلة انتصاره هو الأفضل دائماً ويشار إليه بالبنان
فيما يخص الترجمة
أرى أن تترجم على نحو
أعمال مسلحة غير متكافئة
عمل مسلح غير متكافيء
حرب غير متكافئة
حرب رخيصة
حرب غير مألوفة
عمل قتالي جبان
أيهما أفضل ؟ هذا يعتمد على النص الذي بين يديك إن كان يشير إلى هذا النوع من الحرب بشيء من التهكم أو النقد أو التنديد به ، كان من الأفضل أن تصفها بـ
"عمل قتالي دنيء/رخيص/حقير/جبان"
ولا داعي لأن تتطلف عليها
"أعمال قتالية غير تقليدية كي لا ينسحب المعنى على ما هو غير ذلك

Symmetrical warfare = conventional warfare in a style of combat which involves "force on (against) force" battle engagements.

Each battle takes place inside a specified "area of military operations" which includes front, adjacent and rear areas that are defined and limited by boundaries and control measures. The combatants use linear formations, and each contending force is considered to have "relative combat power" (I'll skip that definition due to space). The concept of asymmetrical warfare does not recognize or use such limitations, and the combatants can be of profoundly-unequal numbers, and each combatant can have and exploit its different capabilities and styles of combat (i.e., guerrilla / insurgent / "irregular" tactics, marked by agility, maneuverability and much patience).
