English to Arabic translations [PRO] Marketing - Marketing / Market Research / sales
English term or phrase:cross-selling
Middle Eastern and North African postal companies can take advantage of several trends that Oliver Wyman expects to feed expansion and cross-selling opportunities in the region.
through the discussion above, which translation do you think it is "accurate"? as for "standard", firstly, I don't think the standard one always is "accurate",secondly, for this particular term, I don’t think there is a “standard” one so far. If “ ba-i-u mutadakhil” doesn’t meet the criteria of “accurate”, argument /proof is welcomed to be presented. I cannot just say I don’t like this one or that one without proof. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your valuable comments and advice. I really never considered discussing on Proz. I come here to ask for help from experts on the subject I am translating. Most of the time, I assumed that there are standard terms that may have already been established that I am not aware of, and those are what I am really looking for. Acting upon your advice, I shall start discussing. Thanks a lot. Can we reach a way for agreeing on a standard accurate equivalent for this term?
You can call all cross selling “multiple selling”, but not all multiple selling “cross selling”.
Multiple selling which has the similar meaning to cross selling
However, there is a slight difference between multiple selling and cross selling. Say for example: I packed one mobile and a hands free and a leather case as a whole package, ready for sales, and there is a marked price for that package, this way of selling is multiple selling. While a customer walk in a shop, there is no ready packed package like what just mentioned, The staff member uses his sales skill to convince the customer to buy a mobile phone, and then he skillfully introduces a hands free and a leather case to the customer, and convinces him to buy them as well, this called cross selling, which means in the process of selling one thing, another thing is introduced to the customer as well, as an additional item to his initial purchase.
So that is why, Your suggestion is close, but not 100% correct. Thanks!
Cross
I translated as follows: البيع المتعدد http://www.addustour.com/ViewArchiveTopic.aspx?ac=\Economy\1...
I saw that the term البيع المتقاطع is widely used on many internet pages, but I prefer البيع المتعدد. So, how can I choose any of the below answers? You advice on the best way to choose answer is highly appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you both for your help. The reason that I do not choose answers is that most of the times, I do not get what really serves as an equivalent to the terms I inquire about. Sometimes, I just get literal translations. Sometimes I get contradictory answers. Sometimes I get so similar answers that it would be unfair to choose one over the others.
To hugh Lester: thanks for your advice. I wrote my suggestion in hope that the readers can benefit from what I suggested. Please be advised that this asker has a history of not choosing any answers but just ask and then leave it. Thanks!
hc_ha: That is a good answer. If I were you, I would disagree with mine (it is probably wrong, based on what you are saying), and enter your own answer. I certainly won't mind, and that is the purpose of this website anyway!
Crossing selling
