Explanation: I coined this term several years ago, and am using it in almost all of my localization work (e.g for Intel.) Microsoft people call it "تشكيل جانبي", which I frankly hate due to its inaccuracy. In my understanding, a profile defines a set of settings, parameters, or preferences specific to a certain entity (e.g. user). I find توصيف serves this meaning reasonably well.
- perfect use of a verb with , perfectly understandable. If is the more suitable word, then it's not wise IMO to go for another word simply because it allows you to derive a verb. But you're entitled to your personal opinion of course.

Both Arabic and English use roots to derive multiple words, more liberally in English than in Arabic. But there is no reason for and to be derived from the same root in English just because it is so in Arabic. And vice versa.
I beg to differ. The stregth of Arabic is that it is based on roots, something that allows a lot of fredom in derivation. It is when we use a noun from one root and a verb from another that the words feel imported from a foreign language. Since "to profle" means "to make a profile", I believe Arabic is able to accomodate the meaning, when us Arabic speakers choose to. English is irrelevant here. I am only looking for a better word or coinage.
There is no reason why "profile" and "profiling" need to be derived from the same root in Arabic just because they are so in English. This procedure would disfigure the Arabic language, turning it into a monstrous copy of English.
Same applies, Fuad. I have checked those before. I need a single word that allows derivatives. This is essential if we are going to totally absorb computer knowledge, and treat it as our own.

That (and any) context helps a lot - I don't think it's right to try to find one single Arabic word which corresponds to the one English word, regardless of the context.
That is exactly what I am avoiding, Nesrin. I am thinking in the abstract. I will use it directly in localising software, so think of a user profile at some website. Does that help?
