English to Arabic translations [PRO]
Media / Multimedia
English term or phrase: subtitles
It is the printed translation of the dialogue of a foreign-language film shown at the bottom of the screen.
I don't think that العناوين الفرعية is good translation.

ترجمة
Explanation:
There are subtitles meaning the printed translation of a film, but there are also subtitles with the meaning of a title that is underneath the main title, which means: عناوين فرعية.
Of course it's the context that decides. عناوين فرعية does certainly not work for translation subtitles. For the cinematic subtitles you usually just say ترجمة. Maybe something like ترجمة نصية. I don't know about the other word used here: حاشية سينمائية, but I certainly would never understand what it means. I think a translation should be easy to understand by everyone, and the common expression is ترجمة

subtitles are shown on the screen, and you can read what the actors are saying. Subtitles can be in the same language as the actors\' voices, or they can be translations.

agree  Nesrin: I agree with Mohamed El-Sayed that الحاشية probably doesn't mean anything to most people. But why not الترجمة المطبوعة أسفل الشاشة? I know you meant it as a definition, and it is a bit long, but it is the most accurate rendition of SUBtitles.
