English to Arabic translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / type of medical test
English term or phrase: biopsy
Is there a single word in Arabic used for this - rather than a whole phrase giving an explanation? Your help, as ever, is very much appreciated.

This was a great help & confirmed the use of "khaz'a" in the text I am translating into English. I enjoyed the useful discussion as well - thanks to all.

neutral  Abdelmonem Samir: [edited] Ali, press CTRL+F (find) in this page and insert "type of medical test". I think this is the part about the context. Now, can a medical test be called خزعة ? So, it is اختبار خزعة? or is it اختبار اختزاع ?
2 hrs
  -> Thanks Abdelmonem... خزعة=اختزاع = biopsy ..but it is the context that determines which is which...اختزاع has its context and خزعة has its context ..neither of them is provided by the asker..he just asked what is a single word for "biopsy"..

agree  Noha Kamal, PhD.: أخذ عينة is far clearer and easily understood.
3 hrs
  -> Many Thanks Noha..I agree with you on أخذ عينة ..and I think if one says to a doctor "خزعة" , his reaction will be "what?! " ...

agree  kimadil: I agree with Noha. The word عينة is commonly used.
3 hrs
  -> Thanks Kimadil and me too agree on عينة

agree  Dr. Hamzeh Thaljeh
5 hrs
  -> Thanks very much Hamzeh

agree  Hassan Al-Haifi (wordforword): which is taken from this link (UMD WHO dictionary): http://www.emro.who.int/umd/ and type in word in search slot under all catedgories uخَزْعَة ; خَذْعَة ; خِزْعَة
5 hrs
  -> Thanks very much Hassan

agree  Randa F
7 hrs
  -> Thanks alot Randa

agree  Dikran
8 hrs
  -> Thanks alot Dikran

agree  Mariam Osmane: عينة used to use during my training in a lab
12 hrs
  -> Thanks MAlaiky

neutral  Khaled El-Mancy: Sorry 4 the misunderstanding, I don't disagree I agree with but I dont think عينة it may be common but it is not 100% correct if it's about medical investigation as عينة=sample & sample can't=biopsy as we can't say urine biopsy!
16 hrs
  -> sure we cant say urine biopsy simply becoz it is not semantically correct English; however we can say in Arabic عينة دم/ بول / كبد أو حتي عينة ترجمة
