agree  Randa F: المورّث المتنحي

disagree  XXpert: "autosomal" is neither وراثة nor مورث
10 hrs
-> I am not an expert on genetics, I merely suggested a translation found on an Arabic site that is supposedly specialised on genetics (see link). I also provided another translation as proposed by the WHO.

disagree  Dikran: This could be a DEFINITION or EXPLANATION rather than a translation. Driss, we DO NOT have ANY translation problem here. We just have TWO words to be translated.
16 mins
-> We do have TWO words, but is there a rule that says we have to come up with TWO words in the translation? I think accuracy of meaning takes priority over economy in writing in this case.

To eliminate all ambiguity, I would prefer to add the word \"جسدي\" or \"لا جنسي\" to my translation above so that it reads as follows:

صبغي جسدي متنحي

* The word \"adjective\" below should be in the plural \"adjectives\". Sorry about that.

\"recessive\" can be used with both \"genes\" and \"chromosomes\". Please have a look at:

To answer Driss Faouzi:

As mentioned above, I have already added the word \"جسدي\" to my original translation. Regarding the word \"متعلق\" ، it adds nothing to the meaing, so we can do without it.

neutral  Driss Faouzi: I quite agree with the couple of remarks you have made about the nature of the words composing the phrase to be translated. As for the collocation "recessive chromosome", you made a point. Still, I'd rather you avoided the word-for-word approach here.
37 mins
-> "recessive" can be used with both genes and chromosomes as mentioned above. Also please note that both "autosomal" & "recessive" and consequently "صبغي" and "متنحي" are adjectives.

comment [المورّث المتنحي/الجين الخامل]

Explanation:
i think all above answers are correct. the problem is that we cannot find an Arabic term for "autosome" to differentiate from
"chromosome".. although the translator could tell the difference, and maybe there IS an existing term used among biologists, whether they use لا جنسي or جسدي.
in all, it's about المورثات المتنحية which exist but are inactive. in this case, a person carrying this autosome/gene is called حامل للمرض أو الخلل الجيني لكن غير مصاب به، وقد يكون ناقل أو غير ناقل
so, i would use الجين الخامل or المورّث المتنحي
