it is believed to be a reference to the American soldiers as mentioned here.
The song has many variations some of which are certaily a lot worse than this one but it has also lent itslef to some more obscene meanings

Thank you for sharing with us the context. I may suggest to translate it as جندي الثورة الامريكية. Continental soldiers are also called revolutionary soldiers.

The misleading part is the term "Continental" which has nothing to do with what some refer to in Arabic "قاري". The continental here refers to المستعمرات .

"In simplest terms, the Continental army was the military force that delegates to the Continental Congress agreed to support financially by requisitions on the states. Each state raised a segment of the army, called its “Continental Line” because the troops were to be trained to fight according to European linear tactics."

They were American soldiers from the colonies.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. جندي قاري أو أوروبي is a literal translation of the given term. I believe the Continental soldier refers to American soldiers from the 13 continents who fought for liberation against Great Britain. This link talks about the Continental soldiers.
