Generic for (Unit) CSM = wakiil (size of unit) or ra'iis ruqbaa' (unit)
Explanation: Greetings.
In US military doctrine and usage, the sergeant major = senior noncommissioned officer of a field command) is the COMMAND Sergeant Major (CSM). Two constructions that have been used inlcude:
wakiil (size or name of the unit), used in the sense that the CSM, as the senior NCO, acts as the commander's agent in matters dealing with the unit's efficiency, morale, and operations and in taking care of the soldiers)
and
ra'iis ruqbaa' (units) = senior sergeant
I would recommend (until a particular country is cited, since the terms used vary on different sides of the Suez Canal) use "wakiil (size or name of the comand)" as a generic term.
Thusly:
o battalion CSM = wakiill katiiba (or wakil katiiba rqm _ or _ bissm fulaan fulaan)
وكيل كتيبة 55 المدرعة
أو
وكيل كتيبة الشهيد فلان فلان
o brigade CSM = wakiil luwaa' وكيل لواء
o regimental CSM = wakiil foj وكيل فوج
A CSM is substantially different from ("non-command-designated") SMs, who are senior NCO/supervisors of large administrative sections or technical (non-combat/not-going-to-the-field) organizations.
