Explanation:
The conbination between "gesticulating" and "beast" means that whoever is saying that sees in the photographer nothing but a Neantherdal. Because moving hands while speaking is actually considered as a sign of vulgarity and lack of sophistication stressed upon by calling him a beast. I wouldn't recommend literal translation in this context, especially if this was for subtitling purposes.
