The writer has given the meaning of the term in Arabic as (kharsin) but I’m unable to figure it.

The text is: “"The seven bodies": an expression used by the philosophers to denote seven kinds of minerals or metals: gold (dhahab), silver (fiddah), lead (rasas), black lead (usrub), iron (hadid), copper (nahas) and a hard glass substance (kharsin).”

أعتقد أنك محق تماما في التوقف عند هذه الكلمة، فمن الصعب ترجمتها بالخارصين أو الزنك وهو عنصر ذو لون مادي شاحب مشوب بالزرقة من عناصر السلسلة الأولى في الفلزات الانتقالية، والأجسام السبعة في العقائد القديمة هي الجسم الأرضي والجسم الأثيري والقوة الحيوية و العقل الغريزي والإلهام أو الفطرة والضمير الشعوري والعقل الروحي والتي يتم التعبير عنها بالمعادن السبعة ومن بينها الزجاج الصلب المكون من السيليكا (الرمل) بدرجة كبيرة ويصعب ترجمته بالخارصين.
ويبدو أن المترجم الغربي لم يعثر على كلمة مناظرة للخارصين فاختار أن يصفه بأنه عنصر يشبه مادة زجاجية صلبة والطريف أننا لم نعد نستخدم كلمة الخارصين العربية على نطاق واسع ونستبدلها بالزنك والله أعلم.

Hard Glass – These are glasses that are characterized by having a high softening point in the range of 1900°F to 2200°F and need a great deal more heat to manipulate. Also known as Bohemian glass.
