يُعنى علم (الهرمينيوطيقا ) بتأويل الخطاب عبر تحليل قواعد وإجراءات كافة الصيغ اللغوية المولدة لمعاني النصوص؛ أي أن علم (الهرمينيوطيقا) معني بتحليل، وتأويل أشكال الكتابة في الآداب، والعلوم أياً ما كانت تطبيقية، أو إنسانية.

هذه الكلمة لها من التراث الدلالي الكثير والكثير ... فبينما تشير كلمة
hermeneutics
إلى الفرع من علم الفلسفة الذي يدرس مبادئ التأويل والادراك ... فإن الكلمة ذاتها تحمل اسم نظرية معروفة في الميثودولوجيا (ما يُسمى بعلم المنهج) في أسلوب تأويل النصوص المقدسة وتفسيرها -بالأخص التوارة والانجيل- .... ولا ننسى الاشارة إلى القاموس الطبي المعروف باسم
hermeneutics .
