English term or phrase: in one ear and out the other

heard but not remembered. (Used to describe something that someone does not listen to.)

when we are listening to someone talking, if we are getting bored or not paying enough atttention to what he is saying or we don't think what he is saying is important, what we heard may end up with " in one ear and out the other".

how do you say this idiom in Arabic? is there an Arabic idiom matching this meaning?

The second expression أذن من طين و أخرى من عجين gives an impression of ignorance for the speaking person, i.e. we don't interest in his speech.

While the first one, means that we didn't get what have been said, because we didn't pay enough attention.

You are right.

turn a dead ear to, may equal أذن من طين و أخرى من عجين

" in one ear and out the other" means يدخل من أذن ليخرج من الأخرى (as Mohamed said).

Asker: و ما رأيك في مثل آخر الذي ذكرته...حسب فهمه منه...كأنه يضرب لمن لا يسمع كلام الآخرين أو نصيحة بتاتا...كأن أذنه من طين و الأخرى من عجين...أي الطين و العجين يمنع ثقب الصوت و مروره إلى داخل أذنه...هل فهمي هذا صحيح؟
