Having begun too high he stops, clears his throat, resumes:
A dog came in the kitchen
And stole a crust of bread.
Then cook up with a ladle
And beat him till he was dead.

Explanation:
Enter Vladimir agitatedly. He halts and looks long at the tree, then suddenly begins to move feverishly about the stage... Halts extreme left, as before. Comes and goes. Halts suddenly and begins to sing loudly.
VLADIMIR:
A dog came in.
Having begun too high he stops, clears his throat, resumes:

A dog came in the kitchen And stole a crust of bread...

الكلمة نفسها قاصرة في اللغة الأصلية .. وبالطبع كلنا يفهم جملة بيكيت
الصعوبات التي أراها هنا هي كونها إلى حد ما عامية، وجملة قصيرة وبليغة تعتمد على استكمال القاريء الانجليزي
وبما أننا كمترجمين نعاني أشد المعاناة من نقل العامي في الانجليزية (أو اللغة غير الرسمية) إلى فصحى بالعربية

سأحاول توصيل ما فهمته هنا. المقصود على ما أظن "الطلعة" أو المطلع أو الدخلة وفي بعض الأحيان تكون أصعب شيء على المطرب وهي ما يتغلب عليه في البروفات. وهنا أظنه مربط الفرس

للأسف لا يوجد لدي أي قاموس موسيقي، وأظن الجملة لها مقصد بالطبقة أو بالمستوى الموسيقي الذي بدأ به مطرب المسرحية

بالعامية: الطلعة مش اللي هي .. أو أعلى من مقام الأغنية الصوتي

ولما وجد نفسه قد بدأ بنغمة أعلى من مقام الأغنية، توقف ثم

هناك معنى آخر تعطيه أحد المواقع

معناها أن روحه عالية أو إنه مزاجه عالي ربما
ولكني لا أظن بدليل ما بعدها. هناك مشكلة بأحد طبقات صوته، لذا حاول تنقية زوره كما يفعل المطربون عادة
