The little thing you stick into the mouth of a newborn when he/she cries to make them quiet. I know the Sudanese and Egyptians use "as-sakkata" (the quieting thing) but I am curious if there is one that would be understood by women from most MENA countries. This is from a health factsheet on child development

Explanation:
The term is used almost in MENA countries to mean some mdical plastic tool we put in the mouth of the newborm when he/she cries to make them quiet. By the way Sam, we do not literarly stick it into his/her mouth.
