What is the difference bet. The 2 terms "World Cup" & "World Championship"

Is there a بطولة كأس عالم which is different from بطولة العالم ?!

كأس العالم مقابل بطولة العالم

Explanation:
ينظم الاتحاد العالمي لكل لعبة (الفيفا مثلا) بطولة كأس العالم في اللعبة وفي المقابل تنظم اللجنة الأولمبية بطولة العالم في كل لعبة مقابل ميداتليات ذهبية وفضية وبرونزية. أي أن الاتحاد العالمي للعبة يمنح الكأس واللجنة الأولمبية العالمية تمنح الميداليات

I am not specialized in the field, neither am I a sports fan, but in Arabic sports news articles I have translated, I have noticed they were used interchangeably to indicate the same competition!

Asker: I thought taht but then the man said that he won both, and I found myself sayin "فزت ببطولة العالم وكأس العالم !!!!

Asker: I mean they are different then? coz he won both like at the same year. That's why I got confused. I just wanted to get sure I dont miss something.
