Excuse me, I mixed up the "source and target"
menus and so I must repost this question.

The term "shareware" in English has to do with computer software that you intall and use on a trial basis and then either must pay for or you are morally compelled to pay for in order to retain the legal right to use. The downloads section of www.cnet.com provides a typical example of this kind of software.

Now just how would we express the idea of "shareware" in Arabic?

Explanation:
As the shareware is software on the honor system. Using the shareware regularly requires registration and payment. The fee is often misunderstood. It is not the registration fee, rather it is the fee for distributing the shareware.

This translation agency gave the most acceptable translation, in my opinion. However, more and more shareware is usable on a very temporary basis--after 14-30 days of use many shareware programs cease to function at all. Hence, some shareware is still distributed by the honor system and some is distributed by the temporary functionality system.(which is sometimes known as crippleware)
برنامج مجاني is, I believe, the pure
translation of "freeware"

al barnamej al majaani

Explanation:
shareware is: albarnamej almajaani:
البرنامج المجاني
this means that you don't have to pay for it. though not very accurate (for later on you have to pay), it is the only translation available.
I agree with the second answer by adding: tajreebi: تجريبي (means: trial).
shareware: al barnamej al majaani al tajreebi. (singular)
البرنامج المجاني التجريبي
(plural): al baramej al majaaniya al tajreebiya:
البرامج المجانية التجريبية
