2. trebati; he wasn't ~d to find that out = nije trebalo da on to sazna; they were ~d to let me know = trebalo je da me oni izvijeste; I was ~d to help him = trebalo je da mu pomognem; he is ~d to get up early = treba da ustane rano
trebati
1. (impers.) to be necessary, one should; treba raditi = it is necessary to work; trebalo je znati =one should have known; kako treba = as one should (also valjati)
2. (impers.) to be supposed to; to have to; mi (on) treba da pitamo (pita) = we (he) should ask; nije trebalo da on to sazna =he wasn't supposed to find that out; trebalo je da odem = I had to leave
3. zatrebati R (pf.) =to be necessary, be needed; nama treba nov auto = we need a new car; meni treba novaca = I need some money; trebala mu je olovka = he needed a pencil; trebaće mi novine = I'll need the newspaper; trebaju vam karte = you need tickets; *tako vam i treba you = got what you deserved; *još bi nam samo to trebalo! = that's all we'd need!
4. (colloq.) zatrebati R (pf.) (tr.) to need; trebam olovku = I need a pencil
