Мисля, че не става дума за излишна мощност, а за клас въздушен съд. Съществува лека и тежка авиация. Леки самолети по принцип имат двигатели с по-малка мощност, тъй като мощните двигатели изискват подсилена конструкция на самолет/въртолет и увеличават неговото тегло. Под тежка авиация се подразбират тежки самолети, например, бомбардировачи, които заради предназначението си изискват свърхмощни двигатели. Обикновено самолетите на гражданската авиация не се наричат “тежки”, а реактивни, ако имат реактивни, т.е. “свърхмощни” двигатели.
