agree  invguy: "ако С. беше поддържана и по-нататък"; всъщност смисълът е "ако С. не беше премахната" :) А за конотацията - не е съвсем така: to perpetuate a myth, a lie, a deceit, a delusion ADDED: You can perpetuate sth also passively, i.e. through silent consent.
