смисълът е като при търсенето на думи с "жокери" или "глобални заместители", които, както всички знаем са * или ??? /*.*.
може и "градове-жокери", или градове-модели, но не звучи толкова добре.

Според Wikipedia това е спортен термин.
Във Вашия случай вероятно става дума за градове, в които се провеждат този вид състезания.
Според мен wildcard не би трябвало да се превежда на български.

За wikipedia и за спортните обяснения съм съгласен (случаят определено не е такъв), но в US "wildcard" си е точно жокер. Жокерът, както всички знаем е карта, която изпълнява роля удобна на притежателя и. Мисля, че Градове по (ваш) избор е най-удачно.
