Просто художествен прочит на оригинала. Когато една жена (или мъж?!?!) не може да реши, кому да дари любовта си, явно е на кръстопът - дали вляво, дали вдясно? НеизвестЕн избор??? Труден??? Именно тази неизвестност (in the dark/ness) ме навежда на мисълта за нерешимост, несигурност и т.н. - т.е. някой е на "кръстопът". Пък и немският "превод" сочи на "мечтания;неосъществено/неосъществимо желание; съновидение; мечта; видение; сън", което явно е неосъществимо нещо в реалния живот на героинята. ІМНО - държа на предложението си от тази гледна точка. Просто "хипотенуза", да не кажа, че е "теза". Не споменавам заглавия като "Lady in Blue" (W. Collins) или "Жената в синьо" - едното е новела, другото - "песньовка", които са аналогии по романа на W. Collins.... My suggestion! BTW - Нека да се поправи правописа на въпроса!!!
