English to Burmese translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Automotive / Cars & Trucks / Oil and fuel
English term or phrase: motor/engine oil
There is currently a discussion going on in the English-to-Dutch section of KudoZ about the translation of the text 'engine wine' on a signboard (see posting http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_dutch/other/3236605-eng... ). The text was apparently translated into English from the Burmese, and, of course, doesn't make much sense at first sight. There seems to be some consensus developing in the direction of the term perhaps meaning something like motor or engine oil, or maybe fuel. The question boils down to: could 'oil' or 'fuel' in the Burmese language mean 'wine', 'spirits' or something like that? I think all participants in the English-Dutch discussion -- not only the asker -- would greatly appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!
