English to Chinese translations [Non-PRO] Science - Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-) | | English term or phrase: shilajit | Who knows the Chinese term for shilajit? Thanks a lot!
Shilajit is a pale-brown to blackish-brown compacted mass of vegetable organic matter composed of a dark gummy matrix thought to result from humification of the plant Styrax officinalis Linn and/or Euphorbia royleana Bois. The substance is an exudation of variable consistency from layers of rocks in many mountain ranges including the Himalayas and Hindukush of the Indian subcontinent but also Pakistan, China, Tibet, part of Central Asia and Scandinavia. It is found at high altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 meters and is found during the peak of summer months.
Chemical analysis of shilajit has shown it to consist of dibenzo-alpha-pyrones, small peptides, some lipids and fulvic acids known to bind to minerals. Standard shilajit contains at least 5-7% dibenzo-alpha-pyrones.1 The compounds occur from mixture of organic humic substances and plant and microbial metabolites occurring in the rock rhizospheres of its natural habitat.
Traditional use of shilajit in India dates back more than 3,000 years. The ancient Ayurvedic medicine text Charaka Samhita Sutra reads “there is hardly any curable disease that cannot be assisted” by shilajit. The substance is described in detail in many Hindu texts and means literally, “conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness.”
Ayurvedic physicians use shilajit extensively for diverse clinical conditions ranging from diabetes to fatigue and for improving digestion, pancreatic function, protein and fat metabolism, immune system balance and recovery after exercise.2,3 The substance is suggested to promote the movement of minerals especially calcium, phosphorus and magnesium into muscle tissue and bone.2,3 Many therapeutic properties have been ascribed to it, a number of which have been verified by modern scientific evaluation.4,5
Anecdotal evidence suggests shilajit also as a strong kidney tonic or promoter of increased energy. It is believed to be an antidote for anxiety and stress and has been attributed for miraculous healings and feelings of rejuvenation.
Michael Hartman, D.C, who has toured Nepal and India and studied shilajit for a decade, says contraindications do not appear to exist except for patients with hypoglycemia and phenylketonuria due to possibility of the material’s effects on blood sugar and minor content of phenylalanine.6

| | | Chinese translation:地蠟或是礦物蠟 | Explanation: Shilajit is a Sanskrit word meaning "conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness." [4] It is also spelt as Shilajeet, and is known by various other names like Shilajita Mumiyo; Mineral pitch, Mineral wax or Ozokerite in English; Black Asphaltum; and Asphaltum punjabianum in Latin(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shilajit)
從wikipedia中看來,shilajit有許多其他的名稱,而從中有中文譯名的,我只有找到地蠟(
Ozokerite),或是礦物蠟(mineral wax)。

I see.But I don't think shilajit is an English word .Do you think you can just "creat" a Chinese translation for it?I mean,if there is really no other translations available,it might be one of the option.
