Page 9 of the manual (see link below) has a picture of offset glass and notched glass as well as an explanation of the difference between them. In putting the gel making apparatus together, the shorter offset glass is aligned with the longer blank glass at the bottom, thus creating a gap in distance between the top of both pieces of glass. In other words, the shorter glass is set (placed) off a short distance from the top of the blank glass.
