but they aren\'t 但是他们(实际上)无法做好 Explanation: 这里的 they 好像是指 SSDs。不是SSDs做不好,而是他们无法做好(因为消费级的驱动器不允许他们做好或者说限制了他们做好)。就好象一个人可以跑得很快,但因为没有运动衣和跑鞋,以平时穿着去竞赛,自然出不来好成绩。 |

(他们)实际上并非如此 Explanation: 由于上个问题的缘故,看了一下原文。从前后行文关系及这种特定表达法来看,“It's not that they can't do better, but they aren't”这句话是说,“并非他们做的已经是顶尖的了,实际上并非如此”,然后下段就说,人家Intel就说自己已经取得重大突破,解决了别人都还解决不了的问题,将真正实用化的工作向前大大推进了。此处的“they”是指前面那家已经很牛的公司——STEC Inc.,英文用代词指公司时,一会儿单数,一会儿复数,有时属于前后不一、行文随意,有时属于着重点不一样,但还是和英文本身的特点有关。 “can't do better” 或“can't be better”在英语口语中也是常用的,和在字面上从汉语的角度去理解,有时结果是截然不同的。 |
