There’s nothing special about the color LCD in Sharp’s configuration—it’s just a standard TFT. The magic happens in an LCD layer on top of the regular display. When turned on, this display puts up a micro-optical parallax barrier, which is a wooden fence pattern that works like polarizing 3D goggles, but without the headgear. Images are bent in such a way that the right eye and left eye see two different things. Every other pixel in a row goes to a different eye. That special LCD layer can be turned on electronically so that, with the push of a button or perhaps by selecting an OS checkbox, you can go from a flat desktop to an interactive 3D application.
