English term or phrase: project

I need Taiwanese colleagues to tell me what is the right expression in Taiwan for "project". In China, it is called 項目. My computer converting my simplified Chinese file into traditional Chinese changed 項目into 專案. Is this the right way to say it? Here "project" is used as in Project Manager, a big project to work on, or the requirements of a project. Also do you say 品質instead of 質量 as in quality control? Is there any online dictionary where two different ways of saying things are listed? Thanks.

Explanation:

Project is also called 是專案計劃、計劃 (but not for "project manager).

As for "quality control, "品管" and "品質管制" are also widely used.

But I'm afraid there's no such dictionary that lists two different ways of saying things in TC and SC.

"品質控管" is another way of saying "quality control."

Yes, the suggested translations (專案經理 & 品質控制) are applicable to the context of translation services. I am afraid "項目經理" and "質量控制" are not used in TC and may sound strange to Taiwanese.

Asker: Thanks. I was just concerned by the word 專案, which sounds like a "special case" to me. I guess I should trust you as you are more familiar with TC. Thanks again!

Mandy Jou: Taiwanese is more familiar with 品管 or 品質管制; don't use 質量 or 質量控制 for Taiwanese; same as 專案經理 is more commonly used than 項目經理

Sheng-Feng Huang: In Taiwan, "project" is usually translated as "專案" and "quality" is usually translated as "品質." In most situations, "項目" & "質量" are translations of "item/entry" & "mass" respectively.

專案也是在台灣常見的翻譯，尤其是用在企業管理方面。但如果是想要求變化,或找到比較適合前後文的翻譯,"計畫","方案","企劃", "工程"等等都是可以交互使用的。不然整篇文章都是"專案",很容易造成閱讀疲乏--這是根據我自己編輯寫作多年提出的看法。

Asker: Hi, Jean, 方案,計劃,項目 are common translations of project in mainland China, what I am seeking is the TC expressions. The project here refers to projects a translation service company works on. And a project manager works in this context too. I originally felt the same way about "專案" as you do, but now based on the comments above, I think "專案" is probably the better choice for TC. What do you think in this context?
