mitigations ==> could be a mitigation procedure or solution (buffer solution)

I think it can either be a solution or a procedure added to prevent false positive or false negative reactions.

e.g.
1) addition of buffer solution to keep pH at certain level to allow normal enzymatic reaction to occur, otherwise, you'll get false negative result.

2) certain assay has to be done at specific time & temperature, such as thromboplastin & prothrombin determination.
