He was as skinny as a rail and wore Coke-bottle glasses. Holtz didn’t get much playing time. He was a fourth-string guard. The coach put him in the game only when the other three guards went down or the game was hopelessly out of reach. So Holtz learned all the other positions, which dramatically increased his chances of playing in case someone got hurt.
