English term or phrase: Translation help

Just wondering if anyone could spare some time to help me. I am in a Chinese Translation class, and it is quite difficult. I am struggling with the following passage, and was wondering if anyone who can do CHN->ENG could spare some time to help me with this. This is not for pay, and I would be willing to translate or help with something in return if anyone needs help with JPN->ENG as I am American but grew up in Tokyo. Thanks for your time.

Here it is:

Braving the bitter cold, I travelled more than seven hundred miles back to the old home I had left over twenty years ago. It was late winter. As we drew near my former home the day became overcast and a cold wind blew into the cabin of our boat. While all one could see through the chinks in our bamboo awning were a few desolate villages, void of any sign of life, scattered far and near under the somber yellow sky. I could not help feeing depressed.
Ah! Surely this was not the old home I had been remembering for the past twenty years?
The old home I remembered was not in the least like this. My old home was much better. But if you asked me to recall its peculiar charm or describe its beauties, I had no clear impression, no words to describe it. And now it seemed this was all there was to it. Then I rationalized the matter to myself, saying: Home was always like this, and although it has not improved, still it is not so depressing as I imagine: it is only my mood that has changed, because I am coming back to the country this time with no illusions.
This time I had come with the sole object of saying goodbye. The old house our clan had lived in for so many years had already been sold to another family, and was to change hands before the end of the year. I had to hurry there before New Year’s Day to say goodbye forever to the familiar old house, and to move my family to another place where I was working, far from my old hometown.

Below is my translation of the first two paragraphs. FYI:
顶着严寒，奔波千里，我终于回到了阔别二十余载的故乡。正值冬末。船快要靠近故乡时，天变得阴沉沉的，一阵寒风吹进船舱。透过竹篷的裂缝，依稀可见荒凉的村庄，了无生机，或远或近，散落在昏黄的天空之下。我的心底不禁生出一丝苍凉。
咦，难道这就是我二十年来记忆中的故乡么？
